Music and Math Alive in

Resistance to Social Systems

The MMARSS project explores social justice issues, mathematical concepts, literacy and scientific principles through music. We will discover how identity is constructed by intersectionality and the musical history of San Francisco. We will also explore the science of how music is communicated. We will analyze these themes alongside the novel, The Gangster of Love, and its musical counterparts. Students will engage in music workshops, production, and praxis. To culminate, we will compose, record, and perform original songs that reflect what we have explored throughout the semester.
